Milton’s voter turnout can be seen through both an optimistic or discouraging lens.
On the favourable note, 42.21 per cent of the town’s 100,342 eligible voters exercised their right in this winter’s provincial election, according to unofficial results. That’s up for the dismal 27.72 per cent who cast a ballot during last spring’s byelection.
That increase still fell short of the 42.70 per cent of Miltonians who voted in 2022, and was below the estimated 45.4 per cent of overall Ontarians who voted this month. That marked a slight bump from the historic low 44 per cent province-wide turnout in 2022.
Neighbouring Halton communities all saw higher turnouts.
Leading the way with 53.33 per cent was Burlington, while Wellington-Halton Hills had a 51.01 per cent turnout. Coming in with 48.79 and 46.49 per cent respectively were Oakville and Oakville North-Burlington.
