For long-time Milton resident and nurse Dainnia Cameron, the path to opening her own beauty bar has been a journey of transformation and passion.
Inspired by her late mother, who always encouraged her entrepreneurial spirit, she aimed to create a space that reflected her personal evolution while serving the community she calls home.
That vision became DC Beauty Bar, which recently held a soft opening at 42 Bronte St. (Unit 8).
Cameron and her mother had once planned to start a cake business together. But after mom’s passing in 2022, she found herself unable to pursue that dream. Instead, she turned to her other passion: beauty and wellness.
“I wanted to build something for the future, something to grow within the community and my family,” Cameron explains.
Before becoming a nurse in 2001, Cameron had a background in fashion modeling. The beauty bar allows her to blend her experience in fashion with her medical knowledge and aesthetic nursing expertise.
The opportunity to open the business came unexpectedly.
Cameron and her sister had noticed construction at a nearby storefront. Before she knew it, she had secured the space for her beauty bar.
“So one day I was across the street minding my own business, and the next day I have a storefront. So it's kind of a nice adventure,” says the mother of four.
As a woman of colour, she is committed to providing beauty and wellness services that are inclusive.
“I want to be able to offer treatments to all, not just a specific group or specific skin type. We have a multi range of nationalities and skin types in Milton,” she says.
What also sets her beauty bar apart is its family-friendly approach. Recognizing the challenges faced by busy parents, she ensures that her business is welcoming to children so that parents can enjoy their treatments stress-free.
Her holistic approach to beauty focuses on both external care and internal wellness. From botox injections and facials and skin rejuvenation to vitamin infusions and massages, she believes in empowering her clients.
The “one-stop shop” will also soon offer laser hair removal services.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it starts with feeling good about yourself. There’s no shame in wanting to look and feel your best,” she says.
