Milton resident William Alexander has been selected as a judge for the 149th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, marking a prestigious milestone in his career in purebred dogs.
The highly anticipated event, presented by Purina Pro Plan, returns to Manhattan in 2025. Daytime events will run from Feb. 8 to Feb. 10 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Meanwhile, evening sessions, including group judging and the renowned Best in Show ceremony, will occur at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 10 and 11.
Alexander, who will judge breeds in the Sporting Group, steps into the role for the first time at Westminster. Raised in a dog-loving family, he has spent over 30 years as a professional handler, achieving numerous championships. His career highlight came in 2015 when he handled Miss P, a Beagle, to win Best in Show at Westminster.
In 2020, Alexander transitioned to judging, earning his license from the Canadian Kennel Club. His canine structure and movement expertise have made him a respected figure in the sport.
The three-day, three-night event will feature over 3,000 champion dogs competing in various categories, culminating in the coveted Best in Show award. Highlights include the new Flyball Tournament, the 10th Anniversary of the Masters Obedience Championship, and the 12th Annual Masters Agility Championship.
Spectators at the Javits Center can engage with exhibitors in the dog benching areas, watch demonstrations of herding and scent work, and even participate in a new human-designed agility course.
The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, first held in 1877, remains a hallmark event in the canine world, celebrating excellence and the enduring bond between dogs and their handlers.
The Westminster Week “Canine Celebration” special events, presented by Purina Pro Plan, will culminate with two evenings of judging at Madison Square Garden.
The events will include Group judging and the Junior Showmanship competition, highlighting the handling skills of participants aged 9 to 18. For over 90 years, Junior Showmanship has emphasized proper dog training and care while fostering sportsmanship and preparing the next generation for success in the sport.
The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will conclude on Feb. 11, announcing the 2025 Best in Show winner at Madison Square Garden, known as The World’s Most Famous Arena.
