In a bizarre twist of events, a motorist is facing an attempted murder charge related to an altercation that took place in the Port Dover area of Southern Ontario following a five-vehicle collision Saturday that killed a Sudbury motorcyclist.
Police say that the Norfolk detachment of the OPP responded to a five-vehicle collision on Highway 6 near Blueline Road in Port Dover at around 4:55 p.m. Sept. 14.
The investigation determined that three motorcycles, a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and a pick-up truck were involved in a collision. A passenger on one of the motorcycles, a 33-year-old from Sudbury, was pronounced deceased at the scene (OPP does not release the gender of people they interact with). The operator of the same motorcycle was transported to a trauma centre with serious injuries.
The operator of a second motorcycle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Four other vehicle occupants were not injured.
Police say that after the collision, an altercation took place that resulted in one person being transported to hospital with serious injuries. Police didn’t elaborate on the nature of the altercation.
As a result of the investigation, one individual was taken into custody and charged with the following:
- Dangerous operation
- Dangerous operation causing bodily harm
- Dangerous operation causing death
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Attempt to commit murder
Police say the accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Sept. 17.
The OPP press release did not provide any information about the accused, including age or place of residence, or what relationship the accused has to the earlier collision.
As many people are aware, Port Dover hosts a motorcycle rally every Friday the 13th. The event, which is decades old, was expected to attract about 100,000 over the weekend.

The police press release did say a publication ban has been issued, and no additional information will be released.
The incident remains under investigation by area OPP. Anyone who was travelling in the area at the time of the collision or captured dash cam footage or area residents who may have security footage is urged to contact the Norfolk County OPP.
