Faith leaders gather for last year's Interfaith Community Dinner.

It’s an evening for spiritual and relational nourishment as much as the nutritional kind.

That’s the aim of Milton Muslim Moms, who once again invite those of all beliefs and walks of life to their sixth annual Interfaith Community Dinner on Tuesday, Mar. 18.

Setting for 5:30 p.m. at Connect Centre (121 Chisholm Dr.), the gathering – dubbed Path to Peace – looks to unite different faith communities with food and fellowship.

“Sharing a meal creates an opportunity for open conversation, allowing us to focus on our similarities rather than our differences,” said Milton Muslim Moms CEO Maliha Khan Ahmed, the dinner’s creator and organizer.

The event has grown steadily since its inception, with roughly 200 guests last year. That included followers of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, First Nations, Hinduism and Sikhism – among other beliefs.

The dinner is free and will include addresses from a variety of faith leaders, along with talks by Muslim scholars from both Sunni and Shia sects.

“They will share insights on interfaith harmony, mutual respect and the importance of community unity,” said Khan Ahmed, who noted that while her organization intentionally holds the dinner during Ramadan it’s not officially part of the celebrations.

Coming together to share a meal – she said – is fitting since it creates a relaxed environment and “holds deep cultural and symbolic significance across all faiths.”

Those interested in attending can reserve a seat at [email protected].

Said Khan Ahmed, “For our organization, this is one of the most cherished events on our calendar. The entire atmosphere is about celebrating diversity, fostering unity and creating opportunities to learn from one another.”
