Hundreds bundled up to take part in the annual Coldest Night of the Year walk (Downtown Main) fundraiser in support of Milton Transitional Housing on Saturday (Feb.22).
It’s MTH biggest annual fundraiser, with organizers setting this year’s goal at $80,000, hoping to exceed last year’s $73,000 tally.
MTH is currently providing 10 area families with temporary housing. More than 700 Halton residents are experiencing some degree of homelessness.
The walk featured 2-km and 5-km both routes starting and finishing at the Milton Sports Centre, with close to 30 teams and 70 volunteers taking part.
The top fundraising team was the Nassagaweya Presbyterian Church, with a four-member team captained by Brett Main raising over $8,300.
Another top fundraiser was the 10-member Milton Milers, captained by former councillor Wendy Schu, raising over $3,500.
Another local CNOY walk was held starting and finishing at Milton Baptist Church on Nipissing Road in support of Re:Soul Youth Centre.
This walk had close to 140 walkers in 24 teams taking part with a fundraising goal of $40,000. This year’s top fundraising team was the Southside Squad with captain Dean Martin raising over $8,780 with its 9 team members.
