Mill Pond’s Fairy Village is showing signs of renewal after suffering an inexplicable act of vandalism.
But a pile of at least a dozen tiny bird houses – built by local children – still sits in a pile of rubble after their recent destruction.
Needless to say, that’s upset numerous pond visitors.
“I was just so sad to see this… so sad for the people who are angry and frustrated enough (to do this),” said Colleen Preisner, passing by the Fairy Village on her daily morning walk Tuesday.
A source of joy for countless Miltonians over the years, the Fairy Village has been a sanctuary where area youth leave inspiring art work and messages – with the overall display added to regularly.
Its destruction prompted one pond visitor to post a note of both outrage and reassurance.
“Shame on the wicked vandals that destroyed everything, One day when you grow up you will realize how nasty your immature behaviour was,” reads the message. “Well done little kids. Do not let the vandals upset you.”
Preisner echoed that hope.
“It’s (village) sustaining. People are rebuilding it. It’s coming back to life and that’s the point, right? One or two people’s not nice deeds aren’t going to matter (in the long run)... this will remain.”
