Flags flew and young voices united in this afternoon’s Student Walkout for Palestine in Milton.
More than 150 teens made their way from four different high schools -- St. Francis Xavier, Craig Kielburger, Elsie MacGill and St. Kateri Tekakwitha -- to the corner of Louis St. Laurent Avenue and Regional Road 25 between 1:30 and 3 p.m. Wednesday.
‘Free, Free Palestine, Free, Free Palestine. From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free’ and ‘Stop the Killing, Stop the Crime’ were among the chants heard along the march, while both the Palestine flag and Canada’s red and white were held high – as were signs calling for peace.
Participating students were respectful of passersby during the peaceful demonstration, which met with many car honks of support.
The walkout publicized on social media – not organized or sanctioned by either school board – had invited students from the four schools to participate.
