Moving Towards Reconciliation

In honour of Truth and Reconciliation Day (Sept. 30), Milton Public Library is holding a month-long campaign in which children can pick up a leaf at the info desk of any of the three branches and write a short note about what can be done to move reconciliation forward. The leaves will be placed in the libraries’ windows, with participants receiving an Orange Shirt Day button.

Milton Farmers’ Market

Visit downtown Main Street (James to Martin streets) from 8 a.m. to noon for fresh produce, food, flowers and more.

Run for Milton

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association hosts the eighth annual Run for Milton at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre (2105 Pan Am Blvd.) from 9 a.m. to noon in support of Milton District Hospital. Visit runformilton.ca to sign up or for more information.

Halton County Radial Railway 70th anniversary celebration

Celebrating its jubilee, the 13625 Guelph Line railway museum will have unlimited street car rides, kids activities, a trolley parade, food trucks and more from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $12 to $70 (child to family rates).

Community Closet

Southside Community Church (200 Main St.) offers free clothes to men, women and children from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are welcome.

MPP’s Community BBQ

Milton MPP Zee Hamid hosts a free community barbecue from 12 to 3 p.m. at Milton Community Park (805 Santa Maria Blvd.). The event includes a bouncy castle, Henna art, music and kids activities.

Garden Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are sought for maintenance of the Milton Public Library’s Indigenous Learning Garden at Beaty Branch (945 Fourth Line) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Teens can use these hours towards their community service hours for graduation. Sign up here.

Indigenous Storytime

Children six to 12 years of age are invited to register and join author Kristi White at Milton Public Library’s Main branch as she shares her series The Adventures of Jay and Gizmo, which includes lessons about Indigenous people, language, culture and traditions. The storytime runs from 2 to 3 p.m.

Campfire Cabaret

Andrews Farm Market & Winery hosts an evening of jazz, opera and theatre favourites starring Cassandra Warner. Wine and dessert is included. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the performance at 7 p.m. Click here for tickets and more details.

St. David’s Chicken BBQ dinner

St. David’s Presbyterian Church (132 Main St. in Campbellville) hosts a community chicken barbecue dinner. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by email Lisa Boekmer at [email protected].

Sunday, Sept. 22

Hindu Storytime

Children 3 to 5 are invited to drop in at Milton Public Library’s Main branch for stories, music and rhymes in Hindi. The event runs from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and is suitable for Hindi and English speaking youngsters.
