Spooktacular Halloween and Festive India among events going on in town

Mountsberg's Spooktacular Halloween celebration runs from Oct. 4 to 27.

Friday, Oct. 18 to Sunday, Oct. 20

Spooktacular at Mountsberg
Spooktacular Halloween is set to welcome local ghosts and goblins to Mountsberg Conservation Area (2259 Milburough Town Line). Starting Oct. 4 and running Friday to Sunday evenings until Oct. 27, the family-friendly extravaganza is both spooky and educational. Highlighting the festivities is a haunted barn visit that’s more on the young children scare spectrum, as well as a scavenger hunt with treats as prizes. Friday, Oct. 18

An Afternoon at the Movies
Milton Public Library invites seniors to its Beaty Branch (945 Fourth Line) at 2 p.m. for a free viewing of Belfast (2021), which follows the story of nine-year-old Buddy and his family who are torn between staying or moving somewhere safe amid Northern Ireland’s national conflict in the late 1960s. No registration is required.

Learn to Code: Grandparents and Grandkids Edition
Milton Public Library invites seniors and their grandchildren (4 to 8 years of age) to a hands-on workshop exploring fun and easy technologies. The free event runs from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Main Branch (1010 Main St.). Register here.

Saturday, Oct. 19

Holy Rosary Rummage Sale
Holy Rosary Catholic Women’s League holds a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon in the church hall (139 Martin St.), with a wide variety of items available. Proceeds will go towards a number of community outreach projects. Donated items can be dropped off at the church hall on the Friday evening before. No furniture or books please.

Milton Farmers’ Market
Visit downtown Main Street (James to Martin streets) from 8 a.m. to noon for the last farmers’ market of the season, with fresh produce, food, flowers and more.

Festive India
Ten local organizations are partnering to celebrate Diwali and Indian culture at Milton Mall (55 Ontario St.). The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features a number of kids workshops and a collection of non-perishable food items for Food for Life. More details can be found at FestiveIndiaMilton.com

Community Closet
Southside Community Church (200 Main St.) offers free clothes to men, women and children from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are welcome and donations are gladly accepted.

Tech Fair @Sherwood
Milton Public Library holds its first Tech Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its Sherwood Branch (6355 Main St.), featuring area organizations and industries showcasing their latest technologies, inventions and innovative ideas. The event is free and open to adults and seniors. Registration is required and can be done here.

Little Mosque on the Tundra
In recognition of Islamic Heritage Month, Milton Public Library invites three to eight year olds and their parents/caregivers to a special story time to hear about Canada’s most northern Mosque, and how it made the journey from Winnipeg to Inuvik. Children will also create a craft to take home. The free event runs from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Main Branch. Registration is required and can be done here.

Hindi Story Time
Milton Public Library invites 3 to 5 year olds and their parents/caregivers to a Hindi Story Time at 11 a.m. at its Main Branch (1010 Main St.). Drop in and enjoy stories, music and rhymes in Hindi. Suitable for both Hindi and English speakers.
