Brady Wassilyn has become awfully familiar with victory since making the jump to junior hockey.
And the international stage hasn’t interrupted that.
The 16-year-old Campbellville centre – a big addition to the OHL Eastern Conference-leading Niagara IceDogs (11-4) – sank an empty netter with nine seconds remaining to clinch Canada Red’s 6-3 win over the U.S. Monday.
That lifted them to 2-0 at the U17 World Challenge in Sarnia, following Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Finland. The back-to-back wins gave Canada Red a bye into the semifinals.
Canada White, Sweden and Czechia are also part of the tournament, with quarterfinal and semifinal play set for Thursday and Friday. The medal rounds will be contested Saturday afternoon and evening.
A fourth overall pick in this year’s OHL Priority Selection, Wassilyn sits top five in the league’s rookie points race with two goals and eight assists in 12 games.
