With sadness, we announce the passing of Jacqueline Marie Gowland (nee Fleetham). Jacqueline, better known as Jackie was born August 12th, 1922 and passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on January 19th, 2025. She was in her 103rd year.
Beloved wife of late George Howard Gowland. Loving mother of Gail (Frank Lavecchia), Ted (Victoria), Donna (Jim) and Robin(Linda). Dear grandmother of Ginnie Acton, Mary-Ellen Lavecchia, Kimberly McDonald, James, Jordan, Travis Gowland, Jennifer Claeys, and Dustin Giroux, and great-grandchildren Cash and Rowan Acton, Joshua, Bensen, Emery McDonald, and Owen Gowland. Jackie is remembered dearly by many nephews, cousins, stepchildren and step-grandchildren, friends and acquaintances, including Ian and Rob Malcolm, Kimberly Taylor, Jackie Taylor and Amber Finnbogason. Jackie is predeceased by her son Gary, son-in-law Robin Taylor, sisters Doris Malcolm and Margaret Collings and nephew, Andrew Malcolm and over one hundred years of family and friends have gone before her.
Born to John and Ellen Fleetham, Jackie grew up in Burlington, Ontario with her two sisters Doris and Margaret. Jackie worked as a secretary after college until marrying Howard and moving to Milton to raise her 5 children on the family farm. Jackie loved to be with her family. She loved baking, sewing, ceramics and singing. She was a member of the Milton Seniors Choir for many years, participating in yearly concerts and skits. She belonged to St. Paul’s United Church in Milton, where she did considerable fundraising with her hand-sewn picturesque carry bags and many baked goods. She was known for her pies which were auctioned off for generous bids. Jackie spent her last 6 years by the lake in Orillia, Ontario with her daughter Donna.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM at McKersie and Early Funeral Home, 114 Main Street East, Milton, Ontario, L9T 1N5, 905-878-4452. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, preceding the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, in Milton; with a reception to follow the internment. As an expression of sympathy, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Milton District Hospital Foundation or to St. Paul’s United Church, Milton.
