A Milton resident fell victim to theft during a late-night transaction of Facebook Marketplace.

Const. Ryan Anderson, Halton police’s media relations officer, said the victim had arranged to meet a prospective buyer to sell an iPhone in a parking lot on Holly Ave around 11 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 21).

When the buyer asked to inspect the phone, the victim handed it over. Instead of returning the device, the suspect allegedly jumped into a black Acura SUV and drove off.

The suspect is described as a man in his mid-20s, with brown skin, standing about 5'7" tall and weighing around 200 pounds, with a heavy build. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Police have determined that the Facebook profile used by the buyer appears to be fake.

No arrests have been made at this time.
