“Pride should be every day of the year, not just in June,” said PRISM Chair

Coming off a very successful second annual Pride Parade in Halton this summer, PRISM Halton has set its sights on a much larger target: Pride 365.

“Our new initiative is Pride 365,” explained PRISM Founder and Chair, Melanie Tremills. “Pride should be every day of the year, not just in June.”

Tremills explained that every year the 2SLGBTQ+ community has a shared experience: during Pride season there are events in so many places, then they ease off, but the community is still here. For many, knowing that there is a community out there and there is acceptance and inclusivity, is incredibly important. Pride 365 will continue with events long after Pride season has ended to maintain the visibility of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

The initiative emphasizes the importance of continuous recognition, acceptance, and advocacy for 2SLGBTQ+ rights and issues. By promoting inclusivity and equality year-round, Pride 365 aims to foster a more understanding and supportive society.

For PRISM Halton, Pride 365 involves continuing to organize and add to its monthly calendar of events for the 2SLGBTQ+ community, in the Halton region. Monthly events like the Halton Teen Hangout for 2SLGBTQ+ teens and allies in Norval United Church, Georgetown; Queer Families with Children ,the Halton Teen Hangout and Families with Gender Diverse members in Milton, along with new events in Burlington like Halton Teen Hangout and Queer families with children; there will be many more social one-off events happening throughout the Halton region.

“We want the 2SLGBTQ+ community to know we are here and will continue to be a proud, active part of the Halton region,” Tremills said.

PRISM also maintains a private Facebook group, a public Pride Halton Facebook group, Instagram and an X page where members can interact, post, and plan events. “Please, come and check out one of our socials, reach out, and connect. We would love to welcome you to our community,” said Tremills.

PRISM is an Not for Profit, and has a board of directors and a great group of volunteers . “We are always recruiting!” said Tremills. If you are interested in volunteering, email Tremills at [email protected] or go to the website here
