Kayla Alexander, seen here in 2022 World Cup play in Sydney, Australia vs. the U.S., is poised to play a bigger role in her second Olympics.

Kayla Alexander’s second Olympics are officially over.

The 33-year-old Milton centre and her Canadian women’s basketball team dropped a 79-70 decision to Nigeria Sunday morning to close out an 0-3 run in Paris.

Canada led by as much as 10 points in the second quarter but couldn’t sustain the pressure – struggling in the paint and committing far too much turnovers.

Playing a much bigger role compared than during her Olympic debut in Tokyo, Alexander had a personal-high 12 points against Nigeria, and added eight rebounds.

Nigeria had a 13-0 run in the third quarter that essentially did in the Canadians, who would have needed to win by 10 points today to have any chance to advance to Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

Alexander will play club ball in Spain this coming season. She’s played in numerous top leagues around the world, including in France, Russia, South Korea, Belgium and Australia.
