Michael Foley is competing at his second Olympics.

Michael Foley and his men’s team pursuit cohorts ended their Olympic run in victory today (Aug. 7).

The foursome tamed the 4-km, 16-lap race in 3:54.517 to win the seventh/eighth place race against Belgium, who did not finish.

Seventh place was a rather encouraging finish for an especially young Canadian team, on which 25-year-old Foley served as the veteran.

The team’s best performance of the week came in Monday’s qualifying round, where they clocked in at 3:48.964. This was two-and-a-half seconds behind Canada’s best-ever showing of 3:46.324 – delivered at the Tokyo Olympics.

One day after setting a new world record of 3:40.730, Australia captured gold with a 3:42.067 performance to upstage Great Britain.

Italy beat Denmark for bronze, while New Zealand won the battle for fifth over France.

Making his second Olympic appearance, Foley will close things out in the madison final Saturday (Aug. 10) at noon (EST.).
