Milton Bats enjoy big-league surprise and excitement at Blue Jays game

Young softballers meet host Jamie Campbell

It’s all about being in the right place at the right time.

The 2012 Milton Bats learned that firsthand recently at the Rogers Centre, where a much-welcomed bonus presented itself to their annual outing for the Blue Jays’ Ontario Minor Softball Night.

Seated near the broadcast booth for the July 24 game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the young players were standing in the concourse area – wearing their jerseys – between innings when one of their older brothers asked if they could get a photo with Jamie Campbell.

The well-known telecast host was only too happy to oblige. Not only did he welcome the girls into the booth and take a quick photo with them, but arranged for the team to be flashed on the jumbotron.

“The girls were starstruck,” said Bats head coach Bonnie Wrigglesworth, who noted Campbell – who grew up in Oakville and has family in Milton – shared the picture on his Instagram account.

The brush with celebrity comes amidst a season with plenty to celebrate, as the Bats secured silver during their provincial qualifier.

They also captured gold at the Waterloo Tournament (B pool) and earned bronze at the Cambridge Tournament (B pool).
