Miltonian Michael Foley and his fellow Canadians have advanced to the next round of the men’s team pursuit at the Paris Olympics.
Despite losing a little speed down the stretch, Canada grabbed the eighth and final qualifying spot today (Aug. 5) – clocking in at 3:48.964.
That’s two-and-a-half seconds behind the country’s best-ever showing of 3:46.324 – a performance Foley was part of during the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
The 25-year-old is now the veteran of the men’s track cycling endurance team after a mass exodus following the last Summer Games.
Australia took top spot in today’s qualifying round with a 3:42.958 finish.
Making up the rest of Canada’s team pursuit squad are Mississauga’s Dylan Bibic, Carson Mattern of Ancaster and Mathias Guillemette of Trois-Rivieres, Que.
They head into the next round Tuesday afternoon (1:14 p.m. start), hoping to secure a medal position. The finals are set for Wednesday at noon.
Foley will also compete in the madison Saturday (Aug. 10).
