PETA to memorialize chickens killed in Milton crash with highway billboard

Truck driver suffers minor injuries in morning collision

A transport truck carrying chickens was involved in an accident on Hwy. 401 Wednesday (July 10).

An animal rights group will be honouring the feathered victims of Wednesday’s Hwy. 401 collision in Milton.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will do so with a billboard to be placed near the site just west of James Snow Parkway.

“Chickens died in terror and pain because of this crash, and the traumatized survivors no doubt continued on to face the slaughterhouse knife,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in a statement Thursday (July 11) announcing the memorial plans. “PETA urges everyone to please go vegan, saving animals from making the journey to the slaughterhouse in the first place.”

There’s no word yet on when the billboard will be set up.

This week’s accident – at about 7 a.m. – involved a sedan and transport truck carrying live chickens. The truck driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Animal Welfare Services were on scene.
